| Civil Unions |
Couples of the same sex or of opposite sex may wish to enter into a Civil Union. This option will be available for application after 26th April 2005. In a Civil Union couples have the same rights as in a marriage. A man and a woman can chose to have a Civil Union or change their current marriage to a civil union. They will also be able to change a Civil Union to a marriage with the same partner. The Marriage Act of 1955 remains the same and states that only a man and a woman can marry. You must be “free’ to enter a Civil Union ie single, divorced or widowed. If you are 16 to 17 you will need parental consent For more information look at our what people ask page. |
|
| Commitments | You are a couple who wish to acknowledge to your family and friends your deep commitment and love for each other, say out loud what you feel in your heart and to enjoy the celebration of your union. You may choose a commitment service because you are unable to be lawfully married. You have the freedom to have whatever type of service you wish, there are no documents to sign. As this is not a marriage there are not the same legal attachments. | |
| Reaffirmations | The years have gone by and you would like your husband or wife to know that your marriage is so special to you and take the time to reaffirm the vows you made on your wedding day. You can follow the format of the original or create a service that suits the life you have had together, your family and the future. After the service you are presented to a keepsake copy of your service. | |
| Namings | You wish to celebrate the naming your newborn child or older child encircled by the love and support of your family and friends. Appreciate the gift of life with a welcoming service. You select special people to watch over and support your child (godparents). Make special mention of grandparents, brothers and sisters. A true day of the family, this service is an alternative to the traditional religious ceremonies and becoming quite popular. | |
| Funerals | A time when it helps to have a celebrant assist you through the celebration of your loved ones life and through the pain of your loss. A time to reflect and to say goodbye. When you contact me we make an appointment for me to come to your home as soon as possible. We take as much time as needed to reflect on the life of your loved one, the family stories, and special sayings. I encourage those who wish to speak at the funeral and suggest they have notes to help them. We discuss what format you wish the service to take and favourite music. After the service you are given a keepsake copy of the service. | |
